RIESLING GIOVANE E GIOVIALE INTRIGANTE NELLA BEVA FACILE..
The Vulkanischer Westen (Volcanic West) is not a landscape one understands by chance.
Between Neu-Bamberg, Siefersheim, and Stein-Bockenheim, Rheinhessen becomes rougher,
cooler, and more stony. The vineyards dry quickly after rainfall, while the nights remain
cool. Much of this region feels more like a borderland than the Rheinhessen many know.
Perhaps that is precisely why wines emerge here that have no desire to conform.
THE WILD EDGE OF RHEINHESSEN
Our vineyards lie at the very edge of what still seems possible in Rheinhessen. The sites
surrounding Stein-Bockenheim, extending towards the Pfälzer Wald, are among the
coolest in the entire Vulkanischer Westen. Every year, this presents us with challenges:
later ripening, longer growing seasons, stronger winds, and highly unpredictable weather.
It is also here that the wines we find most compelling emerge – precise, cool in character,
full of tension, and marked by an individuality we rarely encounter elsewhere.
“The Vulkanischer Westen demands a great deal from us every year. Yet it is precisely from this
austerity, the wind, and the cool climate that wines emerge with a tension we rarely find elsewhere.”
Our home region stands apart from the rest of Rheinhessen – not only climatically as a
genuine cool-climate region, but above all geologically. While large parts of Rheinhessen
are shaped by limestone, ancient volcanic rocks meet the remnants of a long-vanished
primordial sea. Two entirely different geological histories have become intertwined within
this small corner of the region. To emphasise these shared geological origins, we refer to
it as the “Vulkanischer Westen”.
